THE M WITH THE CROSS: The M stands for Mary while the Cross stands for Christ’s suffering for our salvation. The Cross coming forth from the M symbolizes Mary as the Theotokos, or God-Bearer, and her role in leading us to Christ. The cross has been given the most prominent location (center-top) calling us to Christocentricity, placing Christ at the center of our lives.
THE WHEAT AND THE BOOK: The wheat symbolizes the parish's connection to agriculture, while the book symbolizes the parish’s connection to the Ohio Northern University. These symbols are placed together to show the parish’s interconnection between these two aspects of our community. They are located below the cross as a reminder that we are Christ’s hands and feet. The wheat is also a symbol of the Eucharist, or Jesus, the Bread of Life, while the book also symbolizes the Holy Scriptures, further uniting the parish to our faith.
THE SHIELD: Symbolizes the Church’s role in the spiritual battle and our call to go forth and spread the Gospel. This also conveys a prominence reminding us of our Universal Call to Holiness, to stand apart from the culture to bring about the Kingdom of God.
THE COLORS: Blue is symbolic of Mary, as well as of hope. Gold symbolized majesty, joy, and the presence of God. The three gold symbols (Cross, Wheat, and Book) together symbolize the Holy Trinity and convey our connection to Christ.
